description: The Storm Water Management Technical Group (SWMTG) data incorporates watershed studies that are used by Prince George’s County. The primary risk classification used is the 1-percent annual chance (100-year) floodplain delineation. The database is derived from the following watershed studies: Anacostia River, Beaverdam Creek, Henson Creek, Piscataway Creek, Charles Branch, and Oxon Run. The floodplain delineation was digitized and rectified to create the SWMTG database. This database based on the County watershed studies differs from the FIRM (Flood Insurance Rate Map published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)). The primary difference between these databases is the FIRM is based on existing land use and is used for insurance purposes while the SWMTG layer utilizes ultimate (or zoning) land use. The data was digitized in 2002 from hardcopy floodplain maps from multiple studies completed between 1986-1995.
